@00:36When I was animating this it reminded me of the Hattifaners from the Moomins! I love the Hattifatners.

I resubmitted this piece as a better quality (and one that actually plays properly... ^^;) Many apologies to those that have already :+fav: the previous one..... Sorry!! *humble bow*

This short film was originally inspired by my own experience
of the bonds that people and plants share, and the residual energy left between a tree and its planter. It is something that I've experienced in a strong way with my own family.

I hope that my film encourages people to engage with nature more freely and more frequently. To encourage them to notice the small things in nature, which exists even in the urban sprawl of our everyday lives. I wanted to draw attention to the mundane and to the natural world's silent presence. The film tries to promote protection of the world’s environment, starting with the small things in our own yard.

This piece was created for my MA Animation course and took 15 weeks to complete. I hand painted each frame, and it was important to me that the background was just as alive as the characters in it. The fantastic score was commissioned by me after the animation was made.

Thank you very much for viewing this :w00t!:

Music by Ethan Lewis Maltby (he doesn't have a DA account so I couldn't put his name down in the credited part.... )
Produced at The University of Sunderland

Avatara 2007 resubmission by ~Juubee This is an incredible animation! Every frame was hand painted and this gives this film a unique style. With great animation skills, this share a great message about nature. A film that must be seen! ( Featured by feawen )

@02:45hey. is it really really painted in a traditional technique? Or did you do it digitally?
This part seems to me digital...

@02:45I didn't say it was traditional media? @__@;;

I said, "I hand painted each frame" which meant that I literally painted each frame manually, not traditionally but on computer (Corel Painter). Digital painting is still painting? It's frequently referred to as such by DA artists, so I followed their lead by putting that XD

Hope that answers your question?

Thanks for viewing!

@02:45of course, digital paintings are still paintings. And I'm not trying to look you as a liar, but to be certain of the technique you used.
That means is interesting, because the technique is very well achieved.
In fact I faved it.
see ya.

Absolutely great work man!
I didn't see such a nice animation for a long time.
It's really amazing.
Wonderful style. Living and breathing - it's very rare.
What is exactly your technique?
I guess it's painted frame by frame isn't it?
Paper and pastels?
Corel Painter?

Please go on! I wish to see more of these.

aw, thanks for the compliments and kindness!! It means a lot to me ^^

My technique is Corel Painter mostly owing to the fact that I don't have the room/money for a real camera and materials set-up ^^; But I've also grown o love Painter as a tool that mimics real media! It's very good and I recommend that everyone tries the free 30 day trial of it ^^

lol! Unfortunately, I don't have much time these days to do much animation now that I've graduated but I do plan on doing another one eventually! Thank you for the encouragement :)

Yes - this is one good thing on computers - they let you do things which you wont be able to do just because of lack of resources. :painter:

I wish you to find some time for animation soon.
Not just some but a lot of...
I am watching your movies again and again. They are great.

^^ Absolutely, and Painter is one of those programs which allows you to simulate real materials visually! So while it isn't real it still gives that feeling/atmosphere.

XD I'll do my best to do something soon- Thank you very much for the encouragement!
